Schoodic Peninsula is a separate section of Acadia, on the mainland and up the coast about 40 minutes. There is a one-way road around the coast of the peninsula with many pull-outs and picnic areas to view the amazing rocky coast and crashing waves. We spent several hours climbing up and around the rocky shoreline of Schoodic.

Molten black diabase filled in this fissure |
The black diabase erodes faster than the surrounding granite, so at the shoreline, it creates channels where the waves come in...
Sea water rushes into the channel....
Water rapidly fills the channel....
Crashing in huge skyward walls of water... that's Gary sitting next to this 40 foot splash.

Heading back from Schoodic Peninsula to Mt Desert Island, we stopped at Ruth & Wimpy's for lunch. Great food at very reasonable prices - burgers, salads and of course, seafood.
