2014-06-17 Hiking Great Head on a sunny morning

Another day off with great weather, we headed out for an early hike around Great Head with just enough time before an afternoon cruise of Frenchman Bay. Great Head is short hike (about 1.5 miles) with great rewards. We started at the parking lot at the end of Schooner Head Road and reached the first ocean views quickly.

About 3/4 mile gets you to the summit. At 145 feet, it doesn't sould like much, but this is the highest headlands on the east coast north of Brazil.

At the summit

Swinging around the point, the trail heads down towards Sand Beach.

Taking a break on the way down
This is a steep descent over rocks, requiring a bit of rock scrambling. I prefer to scramble upwards rather than downwards (down is harder on the knees), so this trail might be easier to do coming up from Sand Beach and going around in a counter-clockwise direction. Fun either way though!
