May 4 - 8: From Vegas to Zion

We intended to stay 2 nights in Vegas (Main Street Station - very noisy, freeway overhead and busy fire department next door!) but extended it to 3 nights due to high winds with 35 mph gusts. On to Zion, the 15 fwy passes briefly through the northwest corner of Arizona, then follows the Virgin River upstream through the Virgin River Gorge.

We had hoped to stay in Zion the entire week, but could only get 4 nights at Watchman Campground. So we stayed 2 nights at Zion River Resort just 1/2 hour from Zion. It was the most expensive park we've stayed at in quite a while - even the laundry was $4 per load...ouch! The drive from there to Zion is very scenic; entering the town of Springdale, UT reminded me of driving into Yosemite Valley!

Springdale is a quaint town with lots of Rock and Gem shops, nice restaurants, and of course, the fantastic scenery. Wish we could have stayed right there in town but the little RV park was full. We were fortunate to pass through during the annual Flute and Drum Festival, set in an awesome canyon. I bid in the silent auction on 2 flutes and got both of them! Really only intended to buy one, but...will try to get my money's worth out of them. Between my flute collection and Gary's harmonicas, we should be able to make beautiful music together....or at least, lots of noise.
