May 24: Scenic drive Escalante to Boulder - Devil's Garden and Hell's Backbone

While Sue was visiting, we took a scenic drive through Escalante to Hole-in-the-Rock Road, down to Devil's Garden, where you wander around, under and over a wonderful collection of hoodoos and arches.

Then it was back on scenic Hwy 12 up towards Calf Creek ...

...then the "Hogback" - a ridge along which the road has steep drops on both sides....

Then we turned off Hwy 12 just before Boulder and drove the 40-mile loop around Box-Death Hollow Wilderness Area, and across the Hell's Backbone Bridge (a bit more white nuckle driving for those who don't like heights and steep dropoffs).

Then a short jaunt off the main road to Posey Lake, which was quiet and secluded.
