2014-05-29 Indian Point, a short hike close to home

We normally work late shift, which is great for early morning hikes. Big Woods Trail at Indian Point is a 2.2 mile walk down from the point to the waterfront of Western Bay through the Nature Conservancy's Blagden Preserve . The trailhead is only a 5-minute drive from home, so good for a morning stroll before work. Also, because it is remote and "less traveled", Indian Point is the most likely place to see harbor seals on Mt Desert Island. Special Note: to approach or harrass a harbor seal can result in a fine up to $75,000, so leave them be. I did not see any seals on this trip, but did encounter lots of mushrooms. Need to research them before I try harvesting any!

Low-lying "fern trail" leads to the shore

Our park is just up the coast there!

Fascinating mix of schist and granite
