One very worthwhile stop on the quiet side of the island is the
Asticou Azalea Garden. The gardens are beautifully designed and manicured. We have since visitied 2 more times; each visit there are different blooms. There is a fee box at the entrance; well worth the $$ to keep these gardens open and maintained. Just around the corner are the Asticou Terraces, a terraced hillside garden overlooking Somes Sound and connecting up to the Thuya Gardens and Elliot Mountain hiking trails. There is a separate (very small) parking lot for the terraces which we missed this day, so we came back the following week to walk the terraces.
