2014-06-11 Biking our first carriage road, around Eagle Lake

To finish off our weekend, the weather was nice so we took the bikes to Eagle Lake and rode our first of Acadia's carriage roads. It is about 6.3 miles around the lake, a nice ride with some climbs, not as easy as it might appear, especially since we have not bicycled in a few years. Gary walked up most of the hills - I managed to ride up but was definitely working! There are over 50 miles of carriage roads on the island - we have plenty more to explore.

Starting out in sunshine - most of this trail is shady

Plentiful flowers along the ride

This ride, we continued around the lake

The carriage road bridges are beautiful and very photogenic. Here's a link to see many more photos of these beautiful masterpieces:   Photos of Acadia brigdes

Another beautiful stone bridge

Interesting multi-piece kayak - it has a 3rd extention to make it a tandem!
