2014-09-08 Windjammer ride, then a sunset cruise for the supermoon!

It was our 3rd day off (first time ever!) and as the season was winding down, we were trying to take advantage of the "free" tours which we were unable to use during peak season. So today we headed down for standby on the whale watch. Unfortunately, they were full. Disappointed that we tried several times and were never able to get on the whale watch. Today, we were able to board boats we had been on before and enjoy a couple of tours. It was a nice calm day and great for a boat ride.

First, we took a short afternoon cruise on the Margaret Todd Windjammer - this trip, an Acadia park ranger was on board who kept us informed and entertained.

It was cold out on the water

After the windjammer, we were able to catch the Sunset Nature Cruise - this was special because it was the night of the Supermoon. Cruised along the Acadia coast (seacliffs, precipice, sand beach, thunder hole, otter point - all very quiet), then out to Egg Rock Lighthouse with all the harbor seals, and then a quiet cruise back enjoying a fabulous sunset and the rising moon. Breath-taking.

Love this boat name, very sweet

And there she is!

Sand Beach

Thunder Hole very quiet today

Even Otter Point is very quiet - no climbers!

A very pretty sky

Returning to the dock

The sunset colors reflecting on the water

Last look at the supermoon
When we left the dock, it was low tide and the bar (land bridge) to Bar Island was exposed, and when we returned, the bar was almost completely submerged, but there was a vehicle driving over it - looked like it was driving on the water!

Landbridge / bar is clearly exposed in the background

Landbridge looks submerged - but note that little dot just beyond the dock in the distance - that's a car driving over the bar

A beautiful sunset on the Bar Harbor waterfront

Downtown Bar Harbor - can you see the moose?
