2014-10-18 3 Nights at Shenandoah National Park

We arrived in early evening, and there was just enough time for a little 2 mile hike on the Appalachian Trail. I was treated to an incredible view across the valley with sunlight streaming through the clouds, it was ethereal and beautiful. That torrential rain and wind storm which had kept us an extra night in Sturbridge MA had stripped most of the color from the trees in Shenandoah. But the lack of leaves allowed for incredible views across the mountains and valley. So, a silver lining.

Arriving on a Saturday, plenty of weekend business

Big Meadows campgound was full - thank goodness for reservations!

Never saw a bear...

but saw lots of deer!

This photo makes me laugh - reminds me of the dog breaking wind and then...what...huh..what was THAT!?

Our spot at Big Meadows

A really nice paved pad and woods around us

Heading for the AT which passes nearby the ampitheater

trees nearly completely stripped of foliage

the lodge at Shenandoah

continuing thru the woods

to an amazing view across the valley

wow, breathless

I passed this trail intersection 2 days later on another hike - all the leaves were gone
