2014-10-08 Scenic road trip to the White Mountains of New Hampshire

Because we extended our stay to help out at the KOA beyond our original end date of Oct 1, we would not have time to tour New Hampshire on our way out with the RV. So we adjusted our travel plans and spent our last days off before heading south, visiting New Hampshire to tour the white Mountains. Some of the colors were a bit past peak, but it was spectacular nonetheless.

We drove from Ellsworth down the coast through Belfast, then across through Augusta to Fryeburg into New Hampshire. It was cloudy on the coast but as we aheaded inland, the skies were clearing. We headed north through North Conway, Jackson, through Mount Washington Valley into Gorham where we spent the night. The following morning we headed out early and drove a scenic loop around and through the White Mountains, including Crawford Notch, the Kancamagus Highway, the Flume Gorge and Franconia Notch, and Twin Mountain. We headed home through Bangor. It made for a long day and we got home late, but wow, what a memorable and magnificently scenic drive. Also, kinda glad we did not take the RV on any of these mountain passes.
